Arsenal ‘unlikely’ to sign Dani Ceballos permanently

The reliable James Benge of has provided an insight into Arsenal’s chances of signing Dani Ceballos on a permanent basis next summer.

Ceballos joins Gunners

On the back of a somewhat hit-and-miss couple of seasons at the Bernabeu following his arrival from Real Betis, Spanish midfielder Ceballos was hotly-tipped for a departure from the Spanish capital throughout this past summer.

The likes of Tottenham and AC Milan were previously named as keen suitors of the all-action midfielder.

In the end, though, it was Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal who clinched a deal for Ceballos.

The 23-year-old made the move to the Emirates on loan for the 2019/20 campaign:

‘Madrid see him in their plans for the future’

Ceballos has since gone on to impress the Gunners’ faithful over the early weeks of the season, with his Man of the Match performance versus Burnley, and game-changing cameo in the North London Derby last weekend, having showcased why the Spanish international could prove the ideal long-term replacement for Aaron Ramsey.

Arsenal’s chances of making Ceballos’ stint in the English capital a long-term one, though, appear slim as things stand.

Speaking during a Q&A last night, James Benge of discussed the possibility of the Real Madrid man remaining an Arsenal player beyond next summer.

Benge explained:

‘Arsenal had wanted to put a purchase option in the loan agreement with Ceballos but Real Madrid were having none of it. Why would they? He’s 23 years old and as Gunners fans have already seen his potential is phenomenal.’

‘There are a few cogs to the deal that might give Arsenal hope, though I’ll confess I’m no expert on the internal politics of the Bernabeu.’

‘However it is well known that Ceballos and Zinedine Zidane do not have the best relationship.’

‘If the Frenchman is still manager at the end of the year that strengthens Arsenal’s hand.’

Benge continued:

‘A move from Real Madrid for Paul Pogba or Christian Eriksen would do much the same as indeed would another summer of dramatic spending that would force Florentino Perez et al to balance the books.’

‘If Ceballos does come on the market I’d expect Arsenal to move for him. But at the moment Real Madrid see him in their plans for the future.’
