A Chelsea supporters group have confirmed that the surprise unveiling of a massive Eden Hazard banner ahead of the club’s meeting with Liverpool was little more than a mistake.
Liverpool win again
The Blues welcomed Jurgen Klopp’s men to Stamford Bridge yesterday evening, for a high-profile Premier League showdown.
Both sides headed into proceedings searching for bounce-back results, having been on the receiving end of respective defeats in their Champions League openers during the week.
When all was said and done in London, though, it was visitors Liverpool who emerged victorious.
First-half goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino proved the difference at full-time, as N’Golo Kante’s wonderful individual effort with 70 minutes on the clock eventually proved little more than a consolation for Chelsea.
13 – Chelsea have conceded 13 goals in their opening six Premier League games for the first time, last conceding as many in the top-flight in 1978-79 (also 13) – a season in which they finished bottom of the First Division. Brittle. pic.twitter.com/2GSIC5O3QH

‘Just an error’
While the breathless action on the pitch at Stamford Bridge yesterday has since drawn widespread discussion, ongoings in the stands ahead of kick-off have also been under the microscope.
In a major surprise in the buildup to kick-off in London, a section of Chelsea fans in the Matthew Harding Stand unfurled a sizable banner, with the name of former star man Eden Hazard plastered across it:
No idea why but I can’t say I’m angry seeing us bring out the Hazard banner before kick off. 🤷🏽♂️ pic.twitter.com/rIKtD3XSXh

Most assumed that the banner was simply a tribute to Hazard, on the back of the Belgian attacker’s superb 7 years in the English capital.
This, however, is far from the case.
Chelsea fan account ‘We Are The Shed’ have since confirmed that the situation unfolded due to a simple ‘error’:
Lol people actually thinking the Hazard flag was used on purpose by the MH Stand. Just an error that’s all. So much work/effort goes into organising these things & having so many flags it was bound to happen one day!
Wasn’t ideal but if we can’t laugh at ourselves…
