Chelsea vice-captain vacancy – a look at the options

David Luiz joined Arsenal this summer, creating a vacancy for the vice-captain position at Chelsea.

Cesar Azpilicueta looks certain to be keeping the armband as the first point of call, but who will take charge in his absence now Luiz has left?

One of the more senior players with Chelsea longevity, and also holds experience of captaining Brazil on recent occasions. He will be a likely choice to cover Azpilicueta.

Antonio Rudiger?

Another likely choice, being one of the more vocal players on the pitch. He possesses that grit and determination that you’d expect from a captain. Perhaps more of a traditional type choice than Willian.

Another vocal player on the pitch, also very good at organising others. Could be a good choice, should Frank Lampard consider him as a key man.

Those are probably the three main options for Lampard, but there are some outside bets to be had here also.

Still young, but very vocal on the pitch and also has that passion. Probably too early now, but a potential future contender.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek?

Has been a captain at youth level, and can be very influential. Not quite as vocal as some, but might be a good option for the future.

Most experienced player remaining at the club, might be an option, but probably not considered as key as those mentioned above.

One to watch?

Reece James!

Has captain written all over him, and will surely be one of the leading options in the very near future.
