Danny Murphy compares Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold to David Beckham

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has said that young full back Trent Alexander-Arnold is the best crosser of a ball since David Beckham.

Trent is still just 20 years old, but is already a Champions League hero for playing his part in number six for Liverpool over the summer.

The defender is performing at a level where he is being labelled one of the best offensive full backs in the world – and his crossing isn’t too bad either as he gathered 16 assists in all competition.

TAA is capable of putting the ball on a plate for his team-mates, and it’s put us in a position now where if a cross comes in from the right we can expect it to be inch perfect.

Murphy believes that Trent is the best crosser of a ball since ‘Golden Balls’ Beckham, and he got off the mark in the first game of the season against Norwich by assisting Divock Origi.

Gareth Southgate’s got a massive headache but a good one – I think England have three of the best right-backs in Europe,he told talkSPORT.

We’re spoilt. We’ve got three wonderful right-backs – Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Aaron Wan-Bissaka – there’s so much quality.

Trent’s display of passing and technical ability that we’ve not seen in a full-back for many, many years.

Trent, for me, is as good a crosser of the ball I’ve seen since David Beckham. His crossing is already as good as Beckham, definitely. His set plays and crossing are both phenomenal.

His technical ability, his passing ability is very unusual for a full-back, normally it’s a midfielder who posses those type of quality.

Murphy goes on to suggest that, ideally, you’d want Trent operating further up the pitch, as he can get caught out defensively. As the age of 20, we think he has time to work on that aspect of his game while he continues to break records.
