The agent of Lyon star Nabil Fekir this morning provided an insight into his client’s collapsed summer transfer to Liverpool.
Fekir’s star continues to rise
Fekir, a versatile attacker/midfielder who can play anywhere across the frontline or in an attacking midfield role, first broke into the first-team ranks of Lyon in 2013, having come up through the club’s youth system.
And the gifted Frenchman subsequently went on to establish himself as both the standout performer and captain of the Ligue 1 giants over the years that followed, with his performances last season in particular having caught the eye of a number of European heavyweights.
All told, Fekir racked up an impressive 23 goals and 8 assists across all competitions.
However, much to the dismay of Liverpool’s fans, in the end, the Reds’ move for Fekir collapsed. An apparent last-minute ‘transfer fee change’ saw Lyon pull the plug on negotiations with the board at Anfield.
As a result, Fekir has since remained at the Groupama Stadium.
‘Knee was only part of it’
But, on the back of claims that the 25-year-old will be given the green light to finally secure a big-money move away from his long-time club this summer, outlets in England have suggested that Liverpool could yet reignite their chase of Fekir.
As such, speaking to L’Equipe earlier today, the Frenchman’s agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, was questioned on his client’s failed Anfield switch last summer.
And, after first suggesting that ‘the real circumstances’ that saw Fekir’s move to the Premier League collapse are yet to come to light, Bernes subsequently went on to confirm that the Lyon star had in fact ‘passed a medical’ and ‘done photos with the Reds shirt’:
Nabil Fékir’s unwanted agent Jean-Pierre Bernès with a strange quote: “We will know maybe the real circumstances that prevented Fékir’s move to Liverpool. The knee was a part of it, but not only that. He had passed a medical, done photos with the Reds shirt…” (L’Équipe)
