Kelleher set for debut & Legends to play at Ibrox

We round up the latest Liverpool news on Monday, following the Reds’ hard-fought 2-1 win away to Chelsea.

Kelleher and Brewster To Debut Against MK Dons

Jurgen Klopp will make “significant changes” when Liverpool visit MK Dons in the League Cup third round on Wednesday.

The games acts as an opportunity for the manager to blood youngsters and give fringe players some action – one of those set to feature is Caoimhin Kelleher.

The young goalkeeper will make his Reds debut as part of heavy rotation, on what will be a proud night for the Irishman.

Rhian Brewster will also make his Liverpool debut, while Harvey Elliott is another who is in contention.

The vast majority of those who started against Chelsea expected to be given the evening off, instead re-energising for Saturday’s trip to Sheffield United.

The likes of Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri will be hoping to start and their wishes are likely to be granted.

Pepijn Lijnders is set to take the Reds’ pre-match press conference duties on Tuesday afternoon.

Robertson Highlights Fine Details

A highlight of Sunday’s crucial win at Chelsea was Andy Robertson‘s searing run in stoppage time, which eventually won him a free-kick and effectively ended the game.

Following the victory, the left-back spoke to The Athletic‘s James Pearce about the importance of Liverpool mastering every little detail in order to gain success as a team:

“For us, it’s not about gaining five percent or 10 percent here and there, because we are a very good team. It’s about the small margins.

“All those one percents add up. The manager is very big on that. The throw-ins and the set-pieces improved a lot last season and we’re looking to kick on again.

“A lot of preparation goes into every area of the games and that’s credit to the manager and the staff. We’re getting the one per cents right at the minute and long may that continue. We’ll keep looking for more.”

They are fascinating remarks from the Scot and further prove that behind all the hugs and the smiles, Klopp is a ruthless manager who demands perfection from his side.

Salah Set for International Duty

Mohamed Salah struggled to find top gear at Stamford Bridge, becoming an increasingly ineffective presence as the match wore on.

There is no denying the Egyptian’s brilliance, though, and Liverpool benefited from him not going away on international duty earlier this month.

That won’t be the case in October, unfortunately, with KingFut reporting that Salah be representing Egypt in the middle of next month.

The story does state that “no opposition or dates have been arranged as of yet”, which does seem strange, but the Reds will have to accept that their No.11 is not at Melwood this time around.

Thomas Cook Ceases Trading

On Monday, Thomas Cook ceased trading, with thousands of jobs lost after failing to secure £250 million to keep the global travel company afloat.

The news will have a significant effect on Liverpool, who were partnered with Thomas Cook, with hospitality packages at Anfield a big part of matchday income.

Liverpool have released the following statement regarding the situation:

“We are aware Thomas Cook has ceased trading this morning. Thomas Cook sells 360 hospitality packages for each of our home games at Anfield.

“We are currently assessing the impact of Thomas Cook ceasing trading and the impact for those supporters who have purchased packages from Thomas Cook. Once we have those details from Thomas Cook we will update supporters.”

Gerrard to Captain LFC Legends

Steven Gerrard may be flourishing as Rangers manager, but for a brief period next month, he will be the opposition at Ibrox.

Liverpool have confirmed that the 39-year-old will captain LFC Legends against Rangers Legends on October 12.

The likes of Jamie Carragher, Luis Garcia and Patrik Berger will also be involved, with a donation from the game being made to LFC Foundation, the club’s official charity.

With the dreaded international break falling that weekend, this will be a good way of earning your Liverpool fix.
