Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has this afternoon provided an update on the fitness of James Maddison, ahead of his side’s meeting with Newcastle United.
Leicester host Newcastle
The Foxes are set to welcome Steve Bruce’s men to the King Power Stadium on Sunday evening, for their latest Premier League clash.
The hosts, unlike their opponents, will head into proceedings amid a fine run of form.
After putting Tottenham to the sword in the league last weekend, Leicester followed up with a 4-0 drubbing of Luton Town in the League Cup during the week.
As such, as things stand, the Foxes are flying high in 3rd in the Premier League table.
Newcastle, on the other hand, have failed to pick up a victory in any of their last 4 outings across all competitions.
As a result, the Magpies sit in a lowly 17th-spot in the Premier League table, just a point above the relegation zone.
‘Going to be a doubt’
Speaking ahead of his side welcoming Steve Bruce’s struggling outfit to the King Power in 2 days’ time, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers was this afternoon asked for an update on the fitness of star midfielder James Maddison.
22-year-old Maddison missed his side’s win over Luton during the week, after picking up an ankle injury versus Spurs last weekend.
And the gifted Englishman remains a major doubt to feature versus Newcastle, with Rodgers having explained:
‘We’ll see over the next couple of days. He’s obviously going to be a doubt.’
‘He’s put some weight on his ankle so we’ll see over the coming days. He’s a big talent and he’s been playing great. We’ve got a really strong squad.’
‘We made some changes in the week, and the rhythm, speed and intensity in the team was the same.’
‘It’s just the risk of whether he’s going to last the game or not. It’s questionable whether he’ll play or not. He’s such a talented player, we’ll give him every chance.’
