Unai Emery provides Ramsey & Xhaka updates ahead of Newcastle

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has provided updates on the fitness of Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka, ahead of his side’s clash with Newcastle United.

Arsenal vs Newcastle

The Gunners are set to welcome Rafael Benitez’s men to the Emirates on Monday evening, in the respective sides’ return to action following the international break.

An excellent recent run of form from hosts Arsenal, which has seen the North Londoners pick up 4 wins and a draw from their last 5 Premier League outings, has resulted in Arsenal leapfrogging Manchester United into the Premier League’s top-4.

As such, with Tottenham set for a tough trip to Anfield to take on title-chasing Liverpool tomorrow afternoon, a win for Arsenal on Monday could well see Unai Emery’s men head into the next round of English top-flight fixtures ahead of all of Chelsea, Man United and Spurs.

Arsenal pair crocked

Ahead of Newcastle’s visit to the Emirates, though, one source of concern for the Gunners has come on the injury-front.

Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka picked respective thigh and adductor problems over the course of the international break.

As such, both midfielders were immediately labelled as doubts to feature on Monday night.

‘OK to play’

Unai Emery, though, was asked for an update on his sidelined stars during a press conference last night, with the Spanish tactician having provided positive news on both:

‘We trained [on Friday] morning and some players were rested to give them one day more before training with us [on Saturday]. That’s Aaron Ramsey, Dinos Mavropanos. But they can be OK and ready for Monday.’

‘Xhaka also rested and we are going to wait for [Saturday] and Sunday. But the first previews from the doctor’s analysis is that they can be OK to play on Monday.’
